Why did you choose this car?
David: "I chose this car because when I retired from the Army (23 years) I wanted a "project car". I had previously owed several other MK2's and always wanted to build a show quality car. The MK2 has always been know as a VW classic and I felt compelled to add it to may collection."
What was the main goal when the build started?
David: "The main goal when I started the build was to have a reliable, VR6 swapped MK2 to daily and this was the perfect car. "
Do you have a unique story behind the car or build?
David: "When I first purchased the car, it was suppose to JUST be a Daily driver but when I went to events and started winning awards it all spiraled out of control. First, I cleaned the bay and fixed the wiring harness. Then, I pulled the motor and cleaned it up even more. After winning the "Best Engine" award at 2 different shows, I pulled the engine a 3rd time and completely shaved the bay, did a full wire tuck, and did a full respray of the whole car. Everything about the car has been a nightmare! From the wiring harness, to shaving everything, it became known as PROJECT NIGHTMARE!"
What are your future plans for the car?
David: "Future plans are to install pop-out rear quarter windows, and re-do the interior with leather and plaid. I plan on replacing the headliner with suede and add more chrome pieces under the hood."
Is there anything you would have done differently if you could go back?
David: "I love the car and the progress I have made, at this point. I can't think of anything I would change or do differently. I like to change it up every year with new additions, as opposed to building it completely and showing it with the same look, year after year. It's all about the attention to those small details that I am truly happy with."
